Flatbed FAQ

  • What percentage of your loads are tarped?
Percentage of tarping will vary greatly depending on your specific fleet.
Expect to tarp the majority of your loads, unless you’ve been told otherwise.
Great news, though! We have the smaller 4-ft drops, rather than the larger 8- or 10-ft ones some other companies have.
    Silver linings, right?

  • What kind of securement is involved?
Chains, straps, and tarps, depending on the load.
Don’t worry too much about this part; we will cover securement in great detail during orientation.
You’ll get ample hands-on training, and we’ll make sure you feel comfortable with all of it before sending you out on the road!

  • What are the advantages of Flatbed?
It’s like having a free gym membership on the back of your truck :)
Customers understand that flatbedding requires extra physical work, so they pay us a premium on those loads. Since we pay a percentage rate, we get to pass that increase on to you!

Pay

  • You’ll be paid 27-30% of the load, based on your production
    • Over the last 4 weeks, drivers on our Flatbed division have averaged $1,466 per week, which averages out to over 72 cpm.
    • The top driver in the division has averaged $2,315 per week, or an average of 62 cpm.

Lanes

Lanes will vary based on your specific fleet, but some of the top lanes for Flatbed across the board are:

  • Lancaster, PA to Minster, OH
  • Ghent, KY to Carol Stream, IL
  • Greensboro, GA to Russellville, KY
  • Backhaul customer freight depending on your Fleet

Home Time

Home time can vary some based on your home location, customer needs, driver availability, and a number of other factors of course!
Most of our drivers are able to average 48-60 hours home weekly. The best way to get good home time AND a good paycheck is to be flexible.

What Our People Say

“I have worked here for 7 years now! I like working here, everyone is nice and very helpful! I will keep trucking here ’til I can’t truck anymore.”

Larry Wolferst, Driver

“Fraley and Schilling is, hands down, the best job I’ve ever had! This company is very professional, courteous, and family-oriented. I am home every weekend and it’s a full weekend! By the time orientation was over, they knew me by name. My dispatch manager is a really cool guy, and he gets the job done without any hassle! Money is great, so keep that left door closed and you will do great here. I highly recommend driving for Fraley & Schilling!”

Brandon Wallen, Driver

“My time at F&S has been great! It’s great that they call us by name, not truck number. There is nothing like going in the terminals in Knoxville or Alcoa and everyone knowing who you are. They are amazing and make you feel important as a driver. Talking to upper management isn’t too hard either, and the money is good when running hard. When you factor everything into it, it’s hard to find a better company than Fraley & Schilling.”

Dominque King, Driver

“I’ve been working for Fraley & Schilling for a month now. Everyone I come in contact with is very professional and courteous. It is great to work with people who do what is promised. I really look forward to growing with Fraley and Schilling. Thanks everyone!”

Steve Mathewson, Driver

“The best choice I have ever made!!! They treat me like family, and give me a lot of miles in my new truck.”

Rob Hiers, Driver

“My family has been blessed by F&S. I love the brand new Freightliner Day Cab! For all those drivers out there looking for a job, this is a cool place to work!”

Brian E Frazer, Driver

At F&S I’m a person, not a truck number, and I have a great driver manager. Everyone (drivers, managers, administration, etc.) treat you with respect. All I can say is it’s a great company and if you can’t make it here – you can’t make it anywhere.

Jr. Bratcher, Driver
