OUR COMMITMENT

Fraley and Schilling understands the urgent need to address environmental sustainability in the supply chain. That’s why we are actively implementing various strategies to adopt new fuels and energy sources, with a clear focus on reducing our carbon footprint and decreasing our reliance on traditional energy sources. With our dedication to staying on the cutting edge of emissions-reduction technology, F&S aims to contribute to a more sustainable future for the transportation industry while reducing our environmental impact.

USE OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES

As a company committed to sustainability, Fraley and Schilling recognizes the importance of addressing fuel emissions in the supply chain. To further our sustainability efforts, we are implementing various strategies to adopt new fuels and energy sources. One significant initiative is the installation of solar panels on all new trucks starting from 2023, which will help reduce our carbon footprint and decrease our reliance on traditional energy sources.

F&S has also been at the forefront of utilizing compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, as one of the first companies to adopt this technology. While there have been challenges and lessons learned through trial and error, we remain committed to staying on the cutting edge of new technologies and exploring alternative fuel options for our fleet.

Additionally, we are actively working with OEMs and strategic partners to pilot electric trucks. With the progress made in the development of electric vehicle technology and supporting infrastructure, we eagerly anticipate the day when we can expand our fleet with electric vehicles beyond the current testing phase. By embracing new fuels and energy sources, Fraley and Schilling aims to contribute to a more sustainable future for the transportation industry while reducing our environmental impact.

FLEET MODERNIZATION

Fraley and Schilling is dedicated to staying at the forefront of emissions-reduction technology for our fleet. One way we achieve this is by maintaining a modern fleet with an average truck age of only 2.3 years, significantly below the industry average of approximately 5.5 years. Our commitment to fuel efficiency is evident through our equipment, which is equipped with state-of-the-art features such as aerodynamic packages for tractors and trailers, speed governors, idle-reducing cab heaters, and automatic manual transmissions (AMTs).

By the end of 2020, we converted nearly 100 percent of our fleet to AMTs, which are estimated to improve fuel efficiency by approximately 1.5 percent compared to traditional manual transmissions. This transition to AMTs has resulted in a substantial reduction of 781 metric tons of CO2e in carbon emissions, as estimated by F&S.

Fraley and Schilling remains committed to implementing sustainable practices and leveraging cutting-edge technology to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner future for the transportation industry.

USE OF LIGHTWEIGHT EQUIPMENT

Our path to sustainability started with our desire to provide the best service possible to our customers, and what began as a collaborative effort to figure out how to get more payload on a trailer, evolved into the lightweight concept that is the essence of our identity as a carrier today.

By hauling more payload, we effectively take loads out of the system, which in turn, creates savings in many areas:

  • reduced dock congestion at both shipper and consignee
  • fewer man hours loading and unloading
  • elimination of fuel surcharge paid on loads that never shipped
  • fewer invoices
  • reduction in CO2 emissions by taking trucks off the road

As a result of our continuous efforts to improve, we have become a carrier that prioritizes sustainability and efficiency in all aspects of our operations. From that defining moment, we have never stopped working to improve our equipment and our approach to this simple concept.

OUR IMPACT

Fraley and Schilling’s commitment to sustainability and reducing our environmental impact in the transportation industry is unwavering. Our efforts have resulted in tangible reductions in carbon emissions and fuel consumption, providing cost savings to our customers while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future. We remain dedicated to implementing sustainable practices, leveraging cutting-edge technology, and continuously exploring innovative solutions to reduce our carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment and the transportation industry as a whole.
